The Cook family Ministry goals
Having formally served in a Russian speaking country, learning the Slovak language will
not be as challenging as learning our first foreign language. Slovak has a Latin based
alphabet like the English language and many similar root words of the Russian language,
as they are from the same Slovik language family. Therefore, much of the Russian and
Slovak language is similar. Many ederly Slovaks speak Russian and are more than
willing to assist in language study and the differences in the two languages.

Our plans are to begin language studies while working with an American missionary in
Kezmarok. This will allow us to learn biblical terms as well. Within 12 to 14 months, we
plan to relocate and begin Church Planting. Many of the local schools in Slovakia desire
to have an English speaking program. However, there is a great shortage of qualified
teachers. We are asking the Lord to help us fill that need and begin English speaking
youth clubs within the school system. This will allow our daughters to be involved in the
ministry and provide a way for us to minister to those in need of the Savior, while we
study the Slovak language.

Originally, we had planned to go to the City of Presov. However, the Lord has suffered
us not to go and has directed us to an area with great needs and most important, an open
door. Please pray with us as we prepare to enter in this open door.

There is at least one Catholic church in almost every village in Slovakia. The people,
ruled by fear and the traditions of man for many years, are in need of the truth. in the
region between Kezmarok and Spisska Nova-Ves, there are no Baptist churches, nor
missionaries to give them the good news of the Goepel. I have counted at least 8 to 10
villages in this area, each having a Catholic church and a small Brethren house church.
Pray with us as we prepare and lay the necessary groundwork in order to begin a
ministry in this needy area of Slovakia.

May the Lord bless you as you serve him in your field of service.
