Learning math is kind of like learning a language: the more practice, the easier it becomes. We will practice together during our meetings so I can see the student's reasoning, approach, and process, but once a concept is understood, it often needs reinforcing. I am very against busy work, so understand that I am assigning homework because it's valuable, not for my own fun of checking your work!
I almost actually got a Master's in Mathematics too! But I found out my love for mathematics was actually in the teaching of it, so I didn't pursue beyond a year of graduate-level Real Analysis. Algebra is at the heart of mathematics, with the numeracy skills developed up until then preparing students to access this joy of solving puzzles and thinking like a mathematician.
