1. Who you are dealing with

This website is operated by Anna Dell Thompson, trading as Anna Dell Consulting, an independent educational consultant based in the United Kingdom.

Contact: hello@annadell.com

2. What I do

I provide independent educational consulting and tutoring, remotely.

For families and students: personal statements and admissions essays, US college applications, UCAS and UK applications, advice on choosing between the US and UK systems, digital SAT preparation, IELTS and English language preparation, interview preparation, and tutoring in writing and in math to Algebra 1 or GCSE level.

For schools and organizations: curriculum and learning design, copyediting and copywriting, teacher training materials, parent and school workshops, and simple website setup with the writing that goes on it.

What I do not do: social media strategy or management, brand design, SEO, or paid advertising.

What I cannot promise. No consultant can guarantee admission to any institution, a particular grade, a scholarship, or a test score. Admissions decisions are made by universities and colleges, not by me. I am engaged for advice, preparation and support, and anyone who guarantees you an outcome is not telling you the truth.

I do not write essays or applications for students. I advise, edit and give feedback on the student's own work. Submitting work that is not the student's own puts an application at risk, and I will not take part in it.

3. Who the client is

The parent or guardian is my client and is the party to the agreement, because students under 18 are not asked to be a party to the agreement. The student receives the service.

4. Fees and payment

Fees are quoted individually for each engagement, because the work varies. There is no standard price list on this site. You will receive a written quotation and a services agreement before any work begins and before you pay anything.

Currency. All fees are quoted, invoiced and payable in US dollars.

Paid in advance. Work is paid for before it is carried out. I do not invoice in arrears, so you are never in the position of owing me money for work already done.

How to pay. Bank transfer is the standard method, either as a domestic US transfer or as a wire. Card payment may be available on request, so please ask rather than assume, because it is not offered as standard. I do not accept checks or cheques in any currency.

The detail is in your agreement. The rates, how time is bought, when payment falls due, and everything else about fees are set out in the services agreement you sign. This page describes how I work. The agreement is the contract.

5. Cancellation and refunds

You can end the engagement at any time, in writing, to hello@annadell.com.

A deposit applies at the start of an engagement and is credited in full against the first hours you buy, so if you go ahead it is not an extra charge.

If you end the engagement early, time you have paid for and not used is refunded. Where you bought a discounted block of hours, the hours you actually used are re-priced to the rate that matches the amount of time used, and the deposit may be retained. Your services agreement sets out exactly how this is calculated.

If I have to cancel, for illness or any other reason, the hours you used stay at the discounted rate you paid and the whole of your unused balance is refunded. If I am unable to continue for reasons of illness, I will discuss it with you and, within thirty days, set out in writing a plan to transition your student to another recommended independent educational consultant.

The exact refund terms, including how unused time is re-priced and the timescale for repayment, are set out in your services agreement.

If you are unhappy. Please tell me first, in writing, to hello@annadell.com. I will reply within five working days and try to put it right. If you paid by card, please contact me before raising a dispute with your card issuer, because most problems are settled faster directly.

6. Your responsibilities

For the work to succeed I need you and your student to:

Missed sessions. Please give at least twenty-four hours' notice if you cannot keep a session. A session missed, or cancelled with less than twenty-four hours' notice, is charged against your purchased time. This is time that was reserved and cannot be reallocated. There is no separate fee.

I am in the United Kingdom, eight hours ahead of California. Every deadline we agree will state the time zone it is in.

7. Confidentiality

I keep your family's information confidential. How I handle personal information is set out in the Privacy Notice.

I may refer anonymously to the kind of work I do, for example the type of application or the general outcome, but I will not name a student, a school or a family in anything public without your written agreement.

8. Professional standards

I am an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and work to its Principles of Good Practice.

I do not accept payment, commission or any other benefit from a university, college or school for referring or placing a student. My only income from your engagement is the fee you pay me.

I hold professional indemnity insurance.

9. Payment security

No payment is taken through this website. Payment details are given to you directly in your services agreement and on each invoice. This website is served over HTTPS.

10. Limits on my liability

Nothing in these terms limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Otherwise, my liability in connection with an engagement is limited to the total fees you have paid me for that engagement. I am not liable for admissions decisions, for institutional deadlines being changed, or for outcomes that depend on the student's own work or on third parties.

11. Which document wins

Where these terms and your signed services agreement say different things, the signed services agreement wins. This page describes how I work. The agreement is the contract.

12. Governing law

These terms, and any dispute about the use of this website, are governed by the law of England and Wales.

This does not change the governing law of your signed services agreement. That is set out in the agreement itself, and under clause 11 the agreement wins wherever the two documents differ.

13. Changes

I may update this page. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Changes do not affect an engagement already under way, which continues under the agreement you signed.
